FISHERIES REFUGIA DOCUMENTS

A series of documents and reports have been prepared as part of the UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project Activity to establish a regional system of fisheries refugiain the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea. Links to relevant published and unpublished materials are provided below.

PUBLISHED DOCUMENTS ON FISHERIES REFUGIA

Regional Fisheries Refugia Guidelines UNEP/GEF Regional Guidelines on the Use of Fisheries Refugia for Capture Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia. Prepared by the Regional Working Group on Fisheries and published as part of the ASEAN-SEAFDEC Regional Guidelines for Responsible Fisheries in Southeast Asia.
Establishing a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia Article on the fisheries refugiaactivity of the South China Sea Project published in SEAFDEC’s Fish for the People. Prepared by the PCU Fisheries Expert, Christopher Paterson, on behalf of the UNEP/GEF Regional Working Group on Fisheries.
Report of the Eighth Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Fisheries RWG-Fisheries deliberations on: critical spawning and nursery areas for important fish species in the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea; distribution and abundance of larval fish; and the selection of sites for inclusion in an initial system of fisheries refugia.
Report of the Seventh Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Fisheries RWG-Fisheries deliberations on: Marine Protected Areas and fisheries refugia; developing an inventory of candidate fisheries refugia sites; and development of a framework for assessing the effects of fishing in the habitat demonstration sites.
